UK Terms

Ch- Chain

Materials List

3.5mm Crochet hook

50g double knit cotton of Colour A

(For colour A I used a turquoise)

50g double knit cotton of Colour B

(For colour B I used a light blue)

Darning needle

Size and Gauge

9cm by 9cm.

12dc= 5cm  12rows= 5cm

Your tension should be quite tight to hide away the colour you are pulling along.

Crochet Info

Each row will start with 1ch, which does not count as 1dc.

Tapestry Crochet

                                                 Joining of CB
Picture 1   On the last dc of the colour leave the last pull through so that you have 2 loops on the hook.
Picture 2   Place the slip knot on the hook.
Picture 3   Pull the slip knot through the 2 loops.
                        Puling the colour you’re not working with along
Picture 4   The colour you’re not working with you will place alongside your row and work over the thread pulling it along until you change colour and pick it up again.

 

                                           Changing Colour
Picture 5   On your last dc of the colour, leave the last pull through so that you have 2 loops on the hook. The colour you are pulling along should be at the bottom and the colour you are working with should be at the top.
Picture 6   Twist the wool taking the colour you are working with over so that the colour you were working with is at the bottom and the new colour you are working with is now at the top.
Picture 7   Pick up the new colour, wrap around and pull through the two loops. The new colour will now be on your hook and the top of your last st will still be the old colour.

Picture 8   Insert hook into the st closest to the thread.
Picture 9   Wrap the wool around and pull through to the front.

Stitch guide 

Reverse Double Crochet

Ch 1, working from left to right, skip first st, insert hook from front to back in next st to right front, wrap around, pull loop through st, wrap around, pull through 2 loops on hook.

Pattern

Starting with CA.

Foundation row-  18ch.

Row 1- 1dc into 2nd ch, 1dc into each ch until end of row, turn. (17dc)

Row 2- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 16dc, turn.

Row 3- Repeat row 2.

Row 4- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 7, and wait with last pull through on the 7th dc, make a slip knot with CB and place it onto the hook and pull it through (Refer back to picture 1, 2 and 3) working with CB now and pulling along CA (refer back to picture 4), dc into the next dc, but wait with the last pull through, pull through the two loops with CA (refer back to picture 5, 6 and 7), 1dc into the next 8dc, turn.

Row 5- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 6dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 7dc , turn.

Row 6- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 5dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 5dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 6dc , turn.

Row 7- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 4dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 7dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 5dc , turn.

Row 8- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 9dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 4dc, turn.

Row 9- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 2dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 11dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 3dc , turn.

Row 10- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 1dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 13dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 2dc , turn.

Row 11-12- Repeat row 10

Row 13- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 2dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 5dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next st, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 5dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 3dc, turn.

Row 14- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CB, 1dc into the next 3dc, changing to CA, 1dc into the next 4dc, turn. Drop CB and just work with CA without pulling the CB along.

Row 15-17- 1ch, 1dc into the first dc, 1dc into the next 16dc, turn.

End off after row 17.

Border

Round 1- Pick up CB (refer back to picture 8 and 9), 1ch, 3dc up to the top corner, 3dc into the first st of row 17, 1dc into each of the next 15dc across, 3dc into the last dc, 17dc down the side to the bottom of the coaster, 3dc into the bottom ch from foundation row, 1dc into the next 15dc across the bottom row, 3dc into the last bottom ch, 14dc up the side of the coaster, ss into the first dc from the round. (70dc)

Round 2- Reverse double crochet (refer back to picture 9), into each of the 70 stitches, end off.

Weave away any ends.
